Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Clinical Leadership & Practice Role📍 Oranmore, Co. Galway🕒 Full-time | Permanent💰 Salary: €60,000 – €65,000 (DOE)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join the leadership team of a well-established nursing home in Oranmore, Co. Galway.
This role has been created as part of a strengthened clinical leadership structure, with a clear focus on on-floor supervision, staff support, and consistent standards of care. It is a hands-on, visible leadership role — ideal for someone who leads from the floor and enjoys supporting teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
This is not a purely administrative or office-based role. The successful candidate will be present, approachable, and actively involved in day-to-day clinical practice.
The Opportunity
Following a recent HIQA inspection, the provider has committed to investing in stronger clinical leadership and supervision across the home. This ADON role plays a key part in that commitment and comes with clear support from senior management, defined authority, and a realistic scope of responsibility.
You will work closely with senior management to:
- Support nurses and healthcare assistants
- Embed best practice in daily care delivery
- Ensure standards are consistently met
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive clinical environment for both residents and staff
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible, on-floor leadership and supervision across the home
- Support, mentor, and guide nurses and HCAs in their daily practice
- Oversee care delivery during peak periods (e.g. mornings, mealtimes, handovers)
- Support the development, review, and implementation of care plans
- Monitor standards of care and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support audits, documentation quality, and clinical best practice
- Promote a positive culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork
- Act as a senior clinical presence for staff, residents, and families
What We’re Looking For
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMBI registration
- Previous experience as a CNM, ADON, or senior nurse in an older persons’ care setting
- Strong clinical judgement and confident leadership presence
- Comfortable supervising and supporting staff in a busy environment
- Calm, structured, and approachable leadership style
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A genuine commitment to resident-centred care and staff support
This Role Is Ideal For:
- A CNM ready to step into a broader leadership role
- An ADON seeking a more meaningful, hands-on position
- A senior nurse with strong leadership instincts who wants real influence, not just a title
What’s On Offer
- Salary: €60,000 – €65,000, depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent contract
- Strong, visible support from senior management
- Clearly defined role and responsibilities
- Opportunity to develop and grow within senior clinical leadership
- The chance to make a genuine, lasting impact on care quality and staff experience
