Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join a major Life Sciences project team in Cork on a 12-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level Process Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of a major pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical project, providing technical leadership across process systems design, engineering, planning, execution, and commissioning.
The successful candidate will lead process engineering activities and teams, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of process systems in line with project, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week onsite in Cork, offering a balance between onsite collaboration and remote working. The role would suit an experienced Process Engineer with strong Life Sciences experience who is looking for a technically challenging position with significant responsibility and exposure across the full project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Process Systems Design team across assigned projects.
- Provide technical leadership across process systems, including:
- High-purity gas and chemical production and distribution
- Upstream and downstream biologics processing
- Small-molecule synthesis
- Fill/finish operations
- Provide technical and disciplinary leadership within the Process Technology group.
- Develop project planning concepts and prepare cost forecasts.
- Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, and other technical documentation.
- Provide technical support throughout project execution.
- Lead and manage process engineering teams to ensure effective delivery of project objectives.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Support project set-up and business development activities where required.
- Ensure process engineering deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' professional experience in the development, planning, execution, and commissioning of process plants within the Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of processes and equipment associated with biotechnological manufacturing.
- Experience with Upstream Processing (USP) and Downstream Processing (DSP).
- Experience with Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Steam-in-Place (SIP) systems.
- Strong knowledge of stainless-steel technologies and single-use technologies.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical dosage forms, including liquids, solids and/or semi-solids, would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of relevant pharmaceutical regulatory and biosafety requirements.
- Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams.
- Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Customer-focused approach with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
