About the role

Responsibilities
The Structural Simulation Engineer will support the structural design and development of Liebherr container cranes through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation activities. The primary focus of the role will be the assessment and optimisation of crane components and structures using Ansys, including both static and transient/dynamic simulations.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop skills in multi-body dynamics modelling and control system simulation using MATLAB/Simulink and Simscape Multibody, working closely with structural, automation and control engineering teams.
Key Elements of the Role:
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform structural analysis of crane components and assemblies using the Ansys suite of software.
  • Conduct static, nonlinear and transient dynamic simulations to support product development and verifi-cation activities.
  • Evaluate structural strength, stiffness, fatigue performance and dynamic behaviour of crane structures and mechanical systems.
  • Prepare, review and interpret finite element models, simulation results and technical reports.
  • Support the development and validation of simulation methodologies and best practices within the de-partment.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to improve component and system performance through simulation-led design.
  • Develop and maintain simplified and detailed simulation models for complex mechanical systems.
  • Support the modelling of crane mechanisms using MATLAB/Simulink and Simscape Multibody.
  • Collaborate with automation and control engineers to understand the interaction between mechanical systems and control algorithms.
  • Contribute to the development of simulation tools, automation workflows and engineering processes us-ing Python, Ansys APDL and VBA.
  • Work with CAD models generated in PTC Creo and prepare geometry for simulation activities.
  • Constructively collaborate with the simulation engineering community within MCC and the broader Liebherr Group.

Qualifications, Requirements & Experience
  • The successful candidate will hold a third-level qualification in an engineering discipline – preferably L9 or L10.
  • A strong interest in engineering simulation, numerical methods and analytical problem solving.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis principles is essential.
  • Experience with Ansys Mechanical or similar FEA software is desirable.
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics, strength of materials and dynamics.
  • Exposure to transient or dynamic analysis methods would be advantageous.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape Multibody or similar modelling environments would be advantageous.
  • Experience with CAD software, particularly PTC Creo, would be beneficial.
  • Basic programming skills are desirable, with Python considered a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new software tools, simulation techniques and engineering methodologies.
