Purpose of the role Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is establishing a cutting‑edge manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, and our global engineering organisation is expanding. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Data Systems and IT Support team delivering smart, secure, connected manufacturing solutions across our global operations. This team drives the integration of data systems into our manufacturing platforms worldwide, enabling Factory 4.0 capabilities and supporting the production of life‑changing diabetes technologies. As our Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, deploying, and protecting the software systems that support real‑time data acquisition from our diabetes sensor manufacturing equipment. This role combines software engineering, data systems design, operational technology (OT) integration, and a strong emphasis on cyber security, resilience, and system protection. What You’ll Do You will play a key role both in delivering new systems for our Kilkenny site and supporting/enhancing existing systems used across our Irish and U.S. manufacturing partners. Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical expert for data systems and manufacturing operations platforms, guiding and supporting on‑site engineering teams.
- Design, implement, and validate software systems for real‑time data acquisition from production machinery and laboratory equipment.
- Design, implement, and validate Oracle‑based databases for secure, resilient data storage.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain solutions for automated PC and PLC backup and recovery to ensure system resilience and business continuity.
- Lead OT cyber security activities, including risk assessments, vulnerability management, and programs to elevate cyber maturity across manufacturing systems.
- Define and maintain roadmaps for operating system updates and lifecycle management.
- Drive continuous improvement across standards, processes, and engineering practices to support robust and secure Factory 4.0 environments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical, Software Engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar systems engineering role, including system architecture, requirements definition, and integration of electrical, mechanical, and software components.
- Experience with software testing, verification, and validation within regulated environments.
- Strong ability to synthesize technical information across multiple disciplines and deliver compliant, high‑quality system solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Experience working within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
