EXCITING OPPORTUNITY - We have new exciting opportunities for a Senior Instructor to work in Clifden for School Leavers to provide Day Service support. Join our dedicated team, make a difference for the people we support to live their best life.The Senior Instructor role is based in Clifden.Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided are day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training and multi-disciplinary supports. Each person is supported and valued within an environment which promotes their overall autonomy, health and wellbeing and enables them to reach their potential. The Role:

  • Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the Manger Day Services. Write, plan, implement and evaluate programmes/learning modules in a variety of QQI training areas including personal safety, personal care, visual art, food choice and health relaxation techniques, depending on the people we support' preferences and learning ability. Support the Day Services manager and Instructors on delivery of modules/courses as required. The courses will include specific skills as well as social development, personal care, and community integration.
  • Ensure the people we support individual plans are in line with New Direction Interim standards. Act as person in Charge in the absence of the Day Service manager, as directed. This will include day to day management of volunteers, students and community outings/visitors. Essential Criteria:Level 8 qualification in Teaching / Nursing / Applied Social Studies / Social Care / Psychology / Behaviour Analysis./ ORLevel 7 relevant studies for role and minimum 4 years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities including autism. Previous experience working with people with an intellectual disability, complex needs, and communication difficulties.Experience in education/training.An ability to instruct service users in all programmes offered at Adult Day Centres, and QQI modules delivered in Rehabilitative Training.Full current driving license.Desirable Criteria: Experience in developing QQI standard or similar day modules, recording evidence of goals and ambitions.
