Software Engineer on 6-Month Contract:Analyze IQ LimitedGalway / Remote (Ireland-based)About Us: Analyze IQ Limited (www.analyzeiq.com) develops and sells innovative, patent-protected software for machine learning analysis of spectroscopy and chemical sensor data. We are based in the West of Ireland and serve customers across the world in universities, pharmaceutical manufacturing, security and regulatory bodies.

We are currently collaborating in a major European project called BORDERLINK (www.borderlink.eu), to enhance the operations of customs and border management by pioneering innovative technologies, developing reference databases, and establishing standards to improve interoperability and interconnectivity. This project involves 18 partners from 11 countries in the EU, UK and Switzerland, including 4 customs authorities, 4 universities, and 10 companies.

The Role: We are hiring a Software Engineer on a 6-month contract to contribute to our work on the BORDERLINK project. You'll work closely with Martha and our team to extend the capabilities of our existing software suite so for this new application. You will also have the opportunity to apply data analytics and machine learning methods to spectroscopy data that we are collecting.

Duties

• Conduct research into appropriate tools and technologies to tackle business problems
• Design, implement and test software, including both new software and enhancements to existing parts of the company’s software product suite
• Engage with collaborators and participate actively in work-related meetings, both in person and online
• Apply machine learning tools to the analysis of spectroscopy data
• Prepare software documentation, project reports and training materials, and contribute to other deliverables that arise during the project
• Plan and manage your own day-to-day work within the scope of the project and under the direction of your manager
• Engage in customer support, sales and marketing activities, as required
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by your manager as may reasonably be required within the general scope of your post.

Essential Requirements:

• A Level 8 primary degree in computer science / software engineering (2:1 or better)
• Strong proficiency in Java, with evidence of this from previously completed projects
• Demonstrated experience of machine learning principles and tools
• Experience with how to use generative AI appropriately in software development
• Excellent communication, presentation, and personal management skills
• Comfortable working independently in a small-team research environment
• Excellent time management and personal motivation.

Desirable Requirements:

• A Level 9 MSc degree in computer science
• Experience of Python for machine learning
• Experience of database programming
• Experience with Linux and Docker
• Background or interest in analysis of sensor data
• Prior experience contributing to research or academic-industry collaborations.

Contract Details

• 6-month fixed-term contract
• Full-time (39 hours/week), primarily remote
• Start date: 1 June 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
• Salary: €40,000 - €45,000 per annum (pro rata for shorter contracts), depending on experience.

Eligibility: Due to the short-term nature of this contract, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship or support employment permit applications. Applicants must have the existing right to work in Ireland for the full duration of the contract, and must be able to travel freely within Europe.
