Senior Java Software Engineer – Limerick

My client is seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to join their growing team.

Experience of working in a telecoms environment would be ideal, but not essential.

Just one day a week in the office in Limerick, contributing to innovative, mission-critical software projects in the telecoms sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level software solutions using Java and related technologies.
• Apply object-oriented design, design patterns, and best practices to build scalable, maintainable systems.
• Write clean, efficient code and create automated unit and integration tests following TDD principles.
• Perform complex refactoring and ensure high system reliability and performance.
• Write and execute complex SQL queries and work with databases such as DB2 and Oracle.
• Debug issues at runtime and contribute to robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate using agile methods such as pair programming, and participate in code reviews and documentation.

Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with Java and one or more of: RPG/400, RPGLE, AS400, SYNON-RPG, HTML5, JavaScript, Flex, ActionScript, Delphi.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (DB2, Oracle).
• Solid understanding of design patterns, object-oriented design, and refactoring techniques.
• Experience with TDD, CI/CD, and SCM tools (e.g., Git, SVN).
• Ability to debug complex issues and troubleshoot runtime problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of Active Directory integration.
• Experience with legacy modernisation and telecoms data.
