We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established mechanical engineering contractor for an experienced Commercial Manager to join their growing team in County Tipperary.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused professional to take ownership of the commercial function across a diverse portfolio of mechanical engineering projects. Working closely with senior management, project teams, clients, and subcontractors, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial governance from tender stage through to final account.
The role is ideally suited to candidates based in Tipperary, Waterford, Kilkenny, or surrounding areas, offering the opportunity to join a reputable business with a strong pipeline of work and excellent long-term career prospects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of multiple mechanical engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion.
- Oversee project budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, and cashflow management.
- Manage procurement activities, including subcontractor and supplier negotiations.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts and commercial agreements.
- Monitor project performance, identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Manage change control, variations, claims, and final account negotiations.
- Ensure accurate valuation and certification of works completed.
- Work closely with project managers to maximise project profitability and commercial performance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Produce regular commercial reports for senior management.
- Mentor and support Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members where required.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and industry best practice.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7–10 years' commercial experience within mechanical engineering, M&E contracting, or the wider construction industry.
- Previous experience managing the commercial aspects of mechanical building services projects is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management practices.
- Proven experience managing project budgets, procurement, subcontractor accounts, variations, and final accounts.
- Excellent commercial awareness with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience using commercial management software considered an advantage.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
