About the role

LMH Engineering are looking for a hands on Finance Manager to take ownership of our finance function as we grow.

About the role

This is a genuinely hands-on position. You will lead our bookkeeping team, but you will also be working directly in the accounts yourself: completing and reviewing reconciliations, running month-end, resolving accounting issues and making sure the underlying numbers are right. You will also take financial ownership of our MRP/ERP system. It runs separately from our accounts package and sits at the heart of job costing, so a big part of this role is making sure the information flowing between our operational and accounting systems is accurate and properly controlled.

What you will be doing

Running the finance function

  • Day-to-day ownership of finance and accounting
  • Managing, supervising and developing our bookkeeping team
  • Overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable

Getting the numbers right

  • Owning the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
  • Completing and reviewing bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations
  • Reviewing debtors, creditors, accruals, prepayments and other balance sheet items
  • Investigating discrepancies and seeing them through to resolution

Month-end and reporting

  • Owning the month-end close and delivering accurate accounts on time
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules
  • Cash-flow reporting and short-term cash forecasting
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and senior management and board reporting

Compliance and controls

  • Making sure VAT, payroll-related and other statutory obligations are met correctly and on time
  • Preparing year-end schedules and liaising with external auditors/accountants
  • Strengthening financial controls and processes as the business scales

MRP and job costing

  • Taking financial ownership of the MRP system, especially job costing
  • Monitoring and reconciling the MRP against the accounting system, and resolving differences
  • Working with the operations team so jobs and costs are captured correctly
  • Improving processes and controls across both systems as volume and complexity grow

What LMH are looking for

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Strong technical accounting and month-end experience
  • A track record of working hands-on in an accounts function, close to the underlying numbers
  • Comfortable managing bookkeepers while getting stuck into reconciliations, journals and accounting issues yourself
  • Strong systems skills and experience working across separate operational/MRP and accounting systems
  • An understanding of job costing, ideally from manufacturing, engineering, project-based or similar environments
  • Commercial awareness combined with sharp attention to detail
  • Someone who takes ownership of problems and fixes them, not just flags them
  • The drive to bring structure, controls and discipline to a growing finance function
