Lynskey Engineering is a mechanical services contractor specialising in the design, installation, and commissioning of HVAC, plumbing, and building services systems across commercial, industrial, and residential projects. The company delivers a wide range of works including new builds, fit-outs, and refurbishments, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and project coordination, working closely with clients and design teams to ensure efficient and compliant project delivery. Current project portfolio is split between Ireland, UK and mainland Europe.
About the Role
The Jr Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Project Management with the delivery of mechanical building services installations on data centre projects across Ireland.
Working closely with the project management, design, and site teams, the Jr Mechanical Engineer will ensure that mechanical systems are installed to specification, compliant with local regulations, delivered safely, and meet project quality and commissioning requirements.
This is an on-site role requiring strong technical ability, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to manage stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

- Location: Dublin initially but occasional requirement for work abroad also.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Engineering Support
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure accuracy, coordination, and compliance with project requirements
- Assist in developing mechanical design solutions and resolving technical queries
- Support procurement by reviewing equipment selections, data sheets, and material approvals
- Ensure that all mechanical installations comply with Standards as well as project specifications
Site Coordination & Installation Oversight
- Monitor and inspect mechanical installations on site, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with the design
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines to resolve issues and maintain efficient workflow
- Attend site meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination workshops as required
- Track installation progress and report updates to the Project Manager
- Support the development of method statements and risk assessments
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate documentation including inspection test plans (ITPs), quality records, and red-line drawings
- Assist with equipment tagging, asset registers, and compliance documentation
- Manage technical submittals, RFIs, and design clarifications
- Ensure all installation records meet project and client requirements
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Support commissioning teams to ensure systems are tested, balanced, and verified in line with specifications
- Assist in preparing O&M manuals, handover documentation, and as-built information
- Ensure seamless transition from construction to commissioning and handover phases
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and ensure adherence to site safety standards and project-specific H&S requirements.
- Liaise with the safety team to address site hazards, unsafe practices, and compliance issues.
- Ensure all work follows the project’s Integrated Management System (IMS) and ISO standards
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services (HVAC, piping, chilled water, heating, ventilation, BMS integration, fire protection systems, etc.)
- Excellent technical drawing interpretation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multinational construction environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams
- Proficient in MS Office and BIM tools (Navisworks, Revit) or similar
- Highly organised with a methodical approach to documentation and reporting
- Ability to work independently and with team on site.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification
- 1-2 years’ experience in mechanical building services or construction engineering-
- Experience working on large commercial, industrial, data centre, or pharmaceutical projects
- Knowledge of Irish and EU construction standards and regulations beneficial
