A Day in the Life The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical development activities for product development and research applications across physiologic monitoring systems and accessories, including wearable and cable‑integrated solutions. By focusing on non-invasive, real-time technologies, they empower clinicians with actionable insights in surgery, critical care, and other high-risk settings. _Come for a job, stay for a career!_A Day in The Life Of: The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical development activities for product development and research applications across physiologic monitoring systems and accessories, including wearable and cable‑integrated solutions.

  • Translates system and user needs into practical mechanical designs, working closely with industrial design, electrical, software, systems, and test engineering partners.
  • Leads mechanical design and development of components and subsystems for physiologic monitoring devices, including wearable and cable‑integrated solutions for product development and research applications.
  • Highly hands‑on, developing CAD models, building and evaluating prototypes, performing structural and thermal analyses, and iterating designs based on test results.
  • Perform FEA studies (structural, thermal, fatigue) to predict performance and guide design decisions.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for tooling and fabrication.
  • Contribute to risk management, documentation, and technical reviews required for quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Select, characterize, and qualify materials and manufacturing processes appropriate for performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and execute mechanical verification and validation activities, including defining test methods, executing tests, and documenting results.
  • Analyze test data, identify failure modes, and implement design improvements to address performance or reliability issues.
  • Owns the mechanical integrity of assigned components and subsystems, supports verification and validation activities, and contributes technical expertise to ensure designs meet performance, usability, reliability, and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Requires a Minimum NFQ level 8 Engineering degree (Mechanical or Biomedical) with 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing mechanical components and subsystems for electromechanical products, including wearable and cable‑integrated solutions.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and creation of detailed drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of FEA tools and methods, including structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis, to support design decisions.
  • Experience with material selection, characterization, and qualification for performance, reliability, biocompatibility, and environmental requirements.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, overmolding, extrusion, machining, and assembly.
  • Experience planning and executing mechanical verification and validation activities, including test method development, execution, and reporting.
  • Ability to analyze test results, identify failure modes, and implement effective design improvements.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with electrical, software, systems, industrial design, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Experience working in regulated development environments; knowledge of medical device quality systems, designing for compliance to IEC 60601 preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly document and present technical findings and recommendations.
