Structural Steel Estimator
Location: New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working available following successful onboarding
The Company
Before a tonne of steel is ordered, a drawing is issued or a fabrication slot is booked, someone has to decide whether the project stacks up commercially.
That is where this role comes in.
This is an established structural steel specialist delivering fabrication and erection packages across commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, data centre and infrastructure projects in Ireland and the UK.
With continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join their commercial team in New Ross.
The Role
You will take tender information and turn it into a price that is accurate, competitive and commercially sound.
You will:
- Build detailed estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
- Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish scope, risks and opportunities.
- Complete material take-offs, schedules and detailed project costings.
- Source and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to build competitive tender submissions.
- Work with clients, engineers, project managers and the wider commercial team throughout the tender process.
- Support successful project handovers and value engineering discussions when required.
You will be working across multiple tenders, so the ability to spot what matters quickly and keep control of deadlines will be important.
The Candidate
You will already have experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects and understand what sits behind the numbers.
You will be comfortable looking at a set of structural drawings and understanding not just what needs to be priced, but how the steel will ultimately be fabricated and erected.
Must Have
- Previous experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects.
- Background within structural steel or an associated construction environment.
- Strong understanding of structural steel drawings and engineering documentation.
- Proven experience preparing tender submissions.
- Strong numerical and commercial awareness.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and tight deadlines.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
- Full driving licence.
Nice to Have
- Experience with estimating software.
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection methodologies.
- Understanding of procurement and supply chains.
- Experience working with BIM or Tekla drawings.
- Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
Why This Role?
You will not be pricing generic construction work from a desk with little connection to what happens afterwards.
Your estimates will feed directly into structural steel projects across some of the sectors where steelwork is at its most technically demanding — from data centres and pharmaceutical facilities to industrial and infrastructure projects.
There is also the opportunity to develop beyond estimating as the business grows, with exposure to commercial, project delivery and client-facing discussions.
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Permanent position within a growing structural steel business.
- Hybrid working available following successful onboarding.
- Career progression opportunities.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Supportive commercial and project environment.
- Exposure to structural steel projects across Ireland and the UK.
