OBW Technologies is Ireland’s leading provider of fixed and portable gas detection solutions, supporting mission‑critical safety systems across life sciences, high‑tech manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, utilities, data centres, food & beverage, and industrial facilities. We design, engineer, install, commission, and maintain life‑safety gas detection systems that protect people, assets, and operations. Due to continued growth, we are expanding our Engineering Design & Fixed Projects team in Limerick.
About the Role
This is a technically rich and rewarding engineering role focused on the design, configuration, documentation, and technical delivery of OBW’s fixed gas detection projects. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting clients across complex and regulated industrial environments.
The successful candidate will have an Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation or Controls background and a strong interest in system design, instrumentation engineering, and project delivery. This role will suit someone who enjoys technical detail, problem‑solving, engineering documentation, and collaborating with project managers and commissioning engineers. You will play a key part in shaping system designs, developing technical documentation, and ensuring quality from design through to commissioning and handover.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Engineers.
- Develop system architectures, wiring schematics, control philosophies, and technical designs for fixed gas detection systems.
- Produce AutoCAD drawings, panel wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and instrument layouts.
- Prepare Cause & Effect matrices, controller configuration documents, I/O schedules, and system logic descriptions. Support panel build teams with detailed design information and respond to technical queries.
Project Delivery Support
- Review customer tender documents and develop technical proposals, design solutions, and costed quotations.
- Attend and lead client design meetings, providing clear technical input and design recommendations.
- Support the Project Manager in creating project schedules, milestones, and technical deliverables.
- Prepare RAMS, FAT and SAT protocols, commissioning checklists, and project documentation.
Commissioning & Handover Documentation
- Compile complete project handover packages including: Commissioning and calibration certificates / As‑built drawings / O&M manuals / System configuration records.
- Provide technical support to the Commissioning Team to ensure safe, compliant, and high‑quality project completion.
Quality, Safety & Collaboration
- Ensure all system designs meet relevant industry standards, OEM guidelines, and safety requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams including Service, Projects, Sales, Technical Support and Panel build.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation standards.
- Travel as required (<5–10%) to customer sites, suppliers, or training (Ireland and occasional international).
Experience & QualificationsEssential
- Third‑level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, Mechatronics, or similar.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for drawing development.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical circuits, instrumentation, sensors, controllers, I/O systems and panel layouts.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multifunctional engineering team.
- Highly organised, detail‑focused, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Desirable
- Experience in instrumentation, automation, controls, panel design or commissioning.
- Exposure to gas detection technologies, ATEX environments, BMS/PLC integration or industrial automation.
- Experience in regulated environments such as pharma, medical devices, semiconductor, utilities or high‑tech manufacturing.
- Familiarity with PLC or controller programming (full training provided).
