HR Generalist

Our client, a growing construction group with operations across Ireland, has partnered with Re:work to find an experienced HR Generalist to join their expanding HR function.

ROLE SUMMARY

This is a hands-on HR role for someone who genuinely enjoys employee relations work. You'll be the go-to person for ER issues across a 300-person construction business, handling disciplinary and grievance processes, coaching busy site managers through performance issues, and keeping the company compliant. This isn't a policy-writing back-office role, it's practical, operational HR in a fast-paced multi-site construction environment.

ABOUT THE COMPANY & HR DEPARTMENT

This construction group operates across Ireland with approximately 300 people across multiple entities. The HR function is being built from the ground up - With a HR Manager and HR Administrator already in place, the HR Generalist will be the third new addition to the team.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Managing employee relations cases end-to-end - investigations, disciplinary and grievance meetings, advising on complex ER matters
  • Coaching site managers and foremen one-to-one on handling ER issues in practical, actionable ways
  • Developing and delivering training for managers on disciplinary procedures and performance management
  • Maintaining compliance across handbooks, contracts and employment law requirements
  • Supporting compliance projects like pay transparency reporting and working time recording
  • Supporting the rollout of performance management systems
  • Contributing to HR projects and initiatives - this is a small team where everyone chips in
  • Occasional travel to sites around Ireland (mainly Leinster) - approximately 1-2 days per month

The day-to-day reality: You'll field calls from site managers dealing with attendance issues, performance concerns, or difficult conversations. You'll translate their "this person isn't showing up" into a proper ER process that's fair, legal and gets to resolution. You'll coach them in a way that works for people standing on a building site in the rain, not in a boardroom.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Solid ER experience - you've handled disciplinaries, grievances, and investigations with genuine ownership (even 2-3 cases is fine if you owned the process end-to-end)
  • Strong employment law knowledge - you can apply it practically (CIF legal support available, but you need to own the ER function day-to-day)
  • Generalist HR background - you'll flex across compliance, policy work and HR projects
  • Coaching and influencing skills - you can guide managers who don't think like HR people
  • Operational mindset - speed and practicality matter, you can work within those constraints while staying compliant
  • Self-regulation and prioritisation - you can handle reactive environments but take a second to think before acting
  • Flexibility and pragmatism - comfortable where processes are being built rather than already perfect
  • Driving licence and own car - occasional travel to sites, circa 1-2 times per month (mainly Leinster)
  • Nice to have: Construction or similar industry experience (manufacturing, retail, FMCG, food, engineering)

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  • Salary: €50,000 - €60,000
  • Annual leave: 23 days
  • Pension: 5% employer contribution
  • Hybrid: 3 days onsite Dublin 3, 2 WFH (flexible days)
  • 37.5 hours/week
  • Opportunity to shape and build an HR function with genuine leadership support
  • CPD accredited employer - support for further education
  • If you bring strong ER expertise, opportunities to develop broader HR skills

This suits someone who's done ER work in fast-paced, operational environments and wants to own the ER function with backing from an experienced HR Manager and legal support when needed. Perfect for ER specialists wanting broader HR exposure, or generalists wanting to deepen ER expertise.

HOW THEY WORK

Hybrid role based in Dublin 3. The working style is pragmatic and fast-paced. Decisions get made quickly, there's not a lot of corporate process for its own sake, and people value solutions over perfection. The culture of the business is incredibly positive - The challenge isn't difficult personalities; it's helping incredibly busy, operational-minded managers understand how to handle HR issues properly while keeping the business moving.
