Electrical Estimator / Estimating Quantity Surveyor
Job Description
Posted on: June 12, 2026
Right Group is a leading mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering contractor, delivering complex water and wastewater infrastructure across Ireland. From our head office in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, we design, build, install and commission electrical and mechanical systems for some of the country’s most critical utility and public infrastructure programmes. Right Group is growing — both in the scale of the projects we win and in the strength of the team we are building to deliver them. We invest in our people, promote from within, and give ambitious individuals real responsibility and a clear path to advance. This is an opportunity to join a business at a genuine inflection point and to shape how we estimate, win and deliver work for years to come. THE ROLE We currently have a requirement for an Electrical Estimator to join our commercial team at our head office in Castleisland, Co. Kerry. This is a permanent role for the right candidate. While the primary focus of the role is electrical estimating, this is very much an estimating and quantity surveying position with a strong commercial dimension — measurement, cost management, value engineering and competitive bid preparation sit at the heart of it. Candidates with mechanical estimating experience, or exposure to mechanical estimating alongside electrical, will be at a distinct advantage, as many of our projects are multi-disciplinary M&E packages. Likewise, direct experience in the water and wastewater sector is highly valued and will set the strongest candidates apart. Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and submission of competitive electrical (and, where applicable, M&E) tenders.
- Carry out detailed take-offs and measurement from tender drawings and specifications, applying a quantity surveying discipline to quantifying materials, plant and labour for allocated projects.
- Review and interrogate tender documentation issued by the client, identifying scope, risk, exclusions and commercial opportunities.
- Attend site visits and client tender briefings to fully understand project requirements and constraints.
- Set up and continuously develop, in conjunction with your line manager, the estimating process, procedures, systems and cost database — including maintaining accurate labour norms and prime costs.
- Issue enquiries and work closely with the Procurement Manager and supply chain at tender stage to secure correct, current and competitive prime costs.
- Price preliminaries based on contract duration, programme and project-specific requirements.
- Manage bids through to award where required, including following up submissions, securing client feedback and capturing lessons learned to sharpen future pricing.
- Provide value engineering (VE) options and associated costings, using innovation and the supply chain to add demonstrable value to our tenders.
- Produce a monthly estimating report for management, with clear visibility on pipeline, win rates and pricing trends.
- Represent the Company at client meetings as required.
- Undertake other related duties from time to time that fall within the scope of the position.
Key Requirements
- Degree qualification in a relevant engineering (Electrical Preferred) or quantity surveying discipline, or Trade qualified with suitable experience
- Electrical estimating experience is essential; mechanical estimating experience (or combined M&E exposure) is a distinct advantage.
- Experience in the water and wastewater sector, or a similar process/utility industry, is highly desirable.
- A commercial mindset with sound measurement and quantity surveying instincts — comfortable owning numbers and defending them.
- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients and external partners.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple live tenders to deadline.
- Proficiency in MS Office, and a willingness to develop within our estimating systems.
- A demonstrated appetite for continuous learning and personal development.
- 4+ years’ experience in a relevant field.
What We Offer & Where It Can Lead This role is a genuine career opportunity, not just a job. As Right Group continues to grow its order book across the water and wastewater sector, the right candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Build and own the estimating function — shaping the systems, database and processes the wider business relies on to win work.
- Progress into senior commercial roles — including Senior Estimator, Estimating Lead, or broader commercial and quantity surveying management positions as the team expands.
- Broaden across disciplines — developing combined electrical and mechanical estimating expertise on multi-disciplinary M&E projects.
- Gain exposure to flagship national infrastructure delivered under Uisce Éireann frameworks and local authority programmes.
We promote from within, back our people’s development, and want the person in this seat to grow with us. Benefits
- Competitive salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications (Circa 60-70k).
- Phone, Laptop and Company Vehicle.
- Contributory Pension
- Continuous development and ongoing educational support.
- A clear path for career progression within a growing, ambitious engineering business.
