Head of Warehouse Distribution Operations

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Operations to join an established organisation and take responsibility for leading and developing a significant warehouse operational function.
This senior leadership position will focus on driving operational excellence, improving business performance and delivering transformational change across a complex, fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will combine strong people leadership with commercial awareness, strategic thinking and a continuous improvement mindset. There will be a particular emphasis on optimising processes, leveraging technology and developing operational capabilities to support future business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, service quality and achievement of business objectives.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive operational excellence through Lean, Six Sigma and process optimisation initiatives.
- Business Transformation: Lead change programmes, introducing automation, technology and improved ways of working.
- Technology & Systems: Optimise ERP, WMS and other operational systems to improve productivity and scalability.
- Commercial Management: Manage operational budgets, control costs and identify opportunities for sustainable improvements.
- People Leadership: Lead, develop and motivate high-performing teams, promoting accountability and employee engagement.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to long-term operational strategy and support business growth.
- Compliance & Risk: Maintain high standards of health and safety, quality, regulatory compliance and business continuity.
Experience & Skills Required
- Proven experience in a Head of Operations, Senior Operations Manager, General Manager or equivalent leadership role.
- Strong operational management experience gained within a complex, high-volume environment, involving warehousing, logistics, distribution or supply chain operations.
- Demonstrated success in leading business transformation, operational improvement and organisational change.
- Strong people management skills.
- Experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, WMS and operational technologies.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, optimise resources and deliver sustainable cost improvements.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to develop and engage teams while delivering measurable operational results.
- Sound understanding of operational governance, health and safety, compliance and risk management.
