We’re looking for a Design Engineer with strong AutoCAD and 3D CAD skills who enjoys turning ideas into engineered reality. In this role you’ll work closely with fabrication and production teams to design components and assemblies that become part of high-performance fire appliances and specialist vehicle builds used by emergency services.

The Design Engineer Role
As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of bespoke vehicle builds and sheet metal components, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and regulatory standards.
Working closely with production, purchasing and project teams, you will develop accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation that support efficient manufacturing and assembly.
This is an opportunity to work on technically interesting projects, contributing to innovative vehicle builds while helping improve design and manufacturing processes across the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for vehicle components, subframes and bodywork
• Support concept design, prototyping and engineering change processes
• Work closely with production teams to resolve design or assembly challenges on the shop floor
• Conduct design reviews to ensure builds meet regulatory, safety and weight requirements
• Liaise with suppliers to specify materials, purchased components and manufacturing tolerances
• Maintain design documentation, drawing standards and engineering records
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing
• Participate in project cost reviews, timeline planning and quality assurance reviews
About You
You are a practical, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working in a hands-on manufacturing environment, where your designs are translated directly into real-world builds.
You thrive when collaborating with production teams and solving engineering challenges that arise during design and manufacture.
Essential
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design, or related discipline
• Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a design or manufacturing engineering role
• Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)
• Excellent problem-solving and technical design skills
• Strong communication and project coordination abilities
Desirable
• Experience in automotive, vehicle builds, fabrication or heavy vehicle sectors
• Understanding of vehicle systems, sheet metal design and structural fabrication
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and design cost control
