Senior Platform Services EngineerWe are working with a high-growth, product-led technology company to hire a Senior Platform Services Engineer to build and scale the core backend services that power engineering teams across a modern enterprise SaaS platform.This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on platform services development, not infrastructure.Role Overview

This position sits at the intersection of platform and product engineering. You will design and build shared backend services that are consumed across multiple teams and products, enabling faster, more consistent delivery across the organisation.

These services are business-critical, operating in production at scale, and must be designed for reliability, performance, and reuse.

Important Clarification

We are specifically looking for engineers who build platform services, such as:

• Authentication and authorisation systems
• Shared APIs and internal SDKs
• Messaging infrastructure (pub/sub, event-driven systems)
• MCP servers and agentic platform components
• Internal developer tooling and shared libraries

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and own core platform services including authentication, messaging, shared APIs, and SDKs
• Define service contracts, API standards, and versioning strategies across multiple products
• Ensure high levels of reliability through observability, resilience patterns, and scalable architecture
• Develop reusable tooling, libraries, and “golden paths” to improve developer productivity
• Contribute to the development of an AI-enabled platform, including MCP servers and agent orchestration capabilities
• Partner with product engineering teams to deliver features and extract reusable platform patterns

Required Experience

• 8–12+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proven track record of building backend services consumed by multiple teams
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture
• Experience designing APIs, service boundaries, and multi-tenant systems
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Python or Node.js/TypeScript, with exposure to C# considered beneficial
• Experience working with containerised environments (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• Production and Operational Experience
• Experience building and operating systems with real uptime and reliability requirements
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and incident response practices
• Experience implementing resilience patterns such as graceful degradation and circuit breakers

Additional Experience (Preferred)

• Experience in regulated or enterprise environments
• Exposure to developer tooling or internal platforms
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (non-core requirement)
• Experience contributing to shared frontend or design systems
