Data Migration Team Lead

Location: Swift Square One Job type: Fixed Term Overview Of Role The Data Migration Team Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting the Cúram Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across UPMC Ireland. You will report to the EHR Technical Stream Lead. This role ensures that all data transferred—clinical, administrative, and demographic—is accurate, complete, and fit for use. This role provides strategic and tactical leadership for the Data Migration workstream, ensuring alignment with clinical operations, financial systems, and overall programme goals. This position requires strong leadership in health data transformation and hands-on experience with large-scale healthcare data migration projects. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of EHR data structures, clinical informatics, ETL processes, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure data readiness for go-live and long-term use. This is an excellent opportunity for a data migration expert who understands the intersections of data migration operations, and health IT systems. Reports to the Technical Stream Lead. Collaborates closely with relevant operational stakeholders, other Stream and Workstream leads, workstream members, change management, and communications teams. Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accountabilities You will have responsibility for delivering the new data migration workstream within UPMC Ireland. You will implement the programme within the project scope and governance, including identification of your stream’s stakeholders. You will establish your project team and allocate responsibilities. You will collaborate with the other workstream leads where required. For the workflows to be deployed, you will be responsible for the end-user experience relating to data migration with the other Clinical and Business team leads, milestone tracking and reporting workstream status and issues, risks and benefits. You will lead the decision-making process towards the resolution of issues impacting your workstream alongside the Technical Stream Lead. Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as the primary liaison to the clinicians and supporting staff, ensuring data migration design meets clinical documentation and workflow needs.
• Lead data migration engagement sessions, adoption planning, and go-live readiness efforts.
• Recommend policy changes and process improvements related to system use to drive efficiencies and improve outcomes.
• Facilitate regular data migration workgroup meetings, track milestones, document decisions, and escalate risks.
• Act as a liaison between data migration functions and the EHR implementation team.
• Provide hands-on support during go-live and stabilisation phases, ensuring continuity of operations and rapid issue resolution relating to data migration.
• Collaborate with the training team to ensure technical and other relevant users are adequately trained on data migration processes within Meditech and associated applications.
• Support the planning and delivery of handover training to the future EHR BAU team members.
• Collaborate with data migration governance to support ongoing optimization and training needs.

Workflow & System Design

• Develop and oversee the data migration strategy and roadmap, including source system analysis, mapping specifications, transformation logic, migration tools, and retention of non-migrated, legacy data.
• Ensure migration scope covers all relevant clinical and business domains
• Collaborate with clinical, business and technical teams to support end-to-end data integrity across modules.
• Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for data migration-related functions in MEDITECH.
• Collaborate with MEDITECH analysts and operational leaders to design and validate data migration workflows into MEDITECH Expanse.
• Review system functionality related to data migration functions.
• Ensure the data migration architecture supports clinical workflow needs, minimizes duplication, and promotes data accuracy and accessibility.
• Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to data sharing, consent, and third-party access in accordance with privacy legislation.
• Collaborate with MEDITECH technical resources to understand destination data models and system constraints.
• Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data handling, de-identification (if needed), retention compliance, data sharing, consent, and third-party access.

Implementation Support, Data Validation & Testing

• Oversee ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, ensuring accurate mapping and clean transformation of legacy data into MEDITECH.
• Coordinate and lead data validation efforts, including Field-level and cross-system comparisons, Clinical review and sign-off, Reconciliation reporting
• Manage rounds of test migrations and execute the final cutover plan in alignment with project go-live.
• Identify and resolve data quality issues, duplication, and inconsistencies that may impact clinical care or reporting.
• Lead testing activities for data migration unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and data migration simulations.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues in collaboration with IT, finance, and clinical teams.
• Champion change management within the data migration team and the wider organisation, addressing workflow impacts, practice changes, and documentation requirements.
• Facilitate standards development processes and actively engage data migration SMEs in design and optimization discussions.
• Lead efforts to validate data migration integrity, data quality, and system performance across all connected platforms.
• Support data migration and normalization activities, especially for historical records or external data sources.
• Act as the escalation point for troubleshooting data migration-related issues during go-live and stabilization.

Documentation & Governance

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including current state/future state maps, risk/issue logs, decision registers, benefits registers, and change logs.
• Support governance processes by preparing materials for the Clinical Design Forum and senior management meetings.
• Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) readiness, adoption, and post-go-live performance.
• Assist in documenting lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to clinical safety and digital health.

RequiredQualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare IT, with at least 2 years in a data migration or data integration leadership role.
• Proven experience with EHR system data migration, preferably including clinical and patient data.
• Strong understanding of healthcare data standards, including HL7, FHIR, and clinical coding systems (ICD, SNOMED, LOINC).
• Strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across clinical and
• operational teams.

Preferred

• Prior experience migrating data into or from MEDITECH Expanse or MEDITECH 6.x or equivalent capabilities with other major EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health).
• Experience with legacy system decommissioning, archiving, or clinical data repositories.
• Knowledge of privacy and health data legislation
