Technical Sales Consultant – Microscopy & Specialist Laboratory Solutions
Location: Ireland, with territory focus aligned to business needs (ideally Southern Ireland based)

The Role
We are recruiting a Technical Sales Consultant to drive the growth of a specialist Microscopy and Laboratory Solutions portfolio across Ireland.
This customer-facing role combines technical expertise, consultative selling and relationship management, working with customers across clinical diagnostics, healthcare research, universities, academic research institutes, biotechnology and life science organisations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and selling advanced microscopy systems, imaging solutions, sample preparation equipment and associated laboratory technologies. You will need to understand laboratory workflows and be comfortable engaging with researchers, laboratory managers, clinicians, principal investigators and procurement teams.
Full product training will be provided internally and through leading global manufacturing partners.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and grow sales across the Microscopy and Specialist Laboratory Solutions portfolio.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across academic research, clinical laboratories, teaching hospitals, biotechnology organisations and research institutes.
- Build strong relationships with researchers, laboratory managers, clinicians, professors and procurement teams.
- Conduct customer visits, presentations and product demonstrations.
- Identify customer requirements and provide tailored technical solutions.
- Manage the sales pipeline, forecasts and opportunities through CRM.
- Deliver agreed revenue and growth targets within the assigned territory.
Technical & Application Support
- Provide technical advice and application support relating to microscopy, imaging and specialist laboratory workflows.
- Deliver product demonstrations and evaluations both on-site and remotely.
- Support customers throughout the purchasing process, including system specification and configuration.
- Provide user training and technical guidance on instrumentation and software applications.
- Work closely with manufacturer application specialists on complex opportunities and customer projects.
Market Development & Customer Engagement
- Maintain awareness of developments across clinical diagnostics, biomedical research, life sciences and emerging microscopy technologies.
- Represent the business at conferences, exhibitions, scientific meetings and workshops.
- Work with Marketing on campaigns, webinars, technical content and customer seminars.
- Support new product launches and wider market development initiatives across Ireland.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, Service, Applications and Marketing teams to deliver an excellent customer experience.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling complementary products and services.
- Contribute to territory planning and wider commercial strategy.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Third-level qualification in Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in technical sales, laboratory-based scientific roles or application support.
- Strong understanding of laboratory environments within clinical, academic or life science research settings.
- General understanding of microscopy, imaging, laboratory instrumentation and scientific workflows.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Experience engaging with scientific and technical stakeholders.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- Full clean driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience selling microscopy, imaging systems or specialist laboratory instrumentation.
- Knowledge of digital pathology, fluorescence microscopy, cell imaging, microbiology workflows or laboratory automation.
- Experience in genomics, molecular pathology or related clinical laboratory workflows.
- Experience working with hospitals, universities, research institutes or clinical laboratories.
- Understanding of research funding processes and capital equipment purchasing cycles.
