The Role
As an Estimator, you'll be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive tenders while supporting the pre-construction team throughout the bidding process.
Working closely with Commercial Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Design Teams and Operations, you'll ensure every tender is professionally prepared, commercially robust and positioned for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, measurement take-offs and Bills of Quantities from drawings and tender documentation.
- Review drawings, specifications and contract documents to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Develop detailed pricing schedules, tender submissions and cost breakdowns.
- Work closely with design, commercial and operational teams to resolve technical queries and validate pricing assumptions.
- Support value engineering and identify innovative, cost-effective construction solutions.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information and tender records.
- Participate in tender review meetings and contribute to bid strategy discussions.
- Ensure all estimating documentation is accurate, organised and maintained within the document management system.
- Assist with risk assessments, contingency planning and commercial analysis throughout the tender process.
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Experience as an Estimator within a main contractor, specialist contractor or construction consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, procurement and pricing.
- Experience preparing detailed estimates, take-offs and tender submissions.
- Excellent commercial awareness and strong analytical skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using estimating software.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tender deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.
